Boulder, CO
Hi, I'm Steven Sashen, and I have a special invitation for you... if any of the following sound familiar:
- You have a meditation
practice that you want to take to the next level
- You know how to meditate, but
have resistance to practicing regularly
- You've tried meditation but
it never seems to work for you
- You want to meditate but don't
even know where to start
- You just want to be happier, more grateful, more peaceful, more relaxed
…and you want to get there in a way that fits in with your busy life, and doesn't require you to sit still for hours, or stop your thinking, or adopt some new or unusual beliefs.
If any of those descriptions fit you (even a little), I hope you can join me for the Instant Advanced Meditation Class in Boulder, Colorado on November 2nd, 2008.
In this day-long class, you'll discover the the Instant Advanced Meditation Techniques (the I AM Techniques), a number of surprisingly simple ways to relax, expand your awareness and find deep levels of inner peace... techniques you can do anywhere, at any time, even in the middle of a busy day or a noisy street. Techniques that take only minutes to do. Techniques that don't require you to stop your thoughts, sit still, or even take time out from your day.
In fact, today, I got an email from Carol, an I AM Explorer in Nilambe, Sri Lanka. Carol doesn't even have electricity where she lives, but listens to the I AM Course at a bustling and LOUD Internet cafe with traffic outside and people talking loudly right next to her. After just a few minutes with one I AM practice, she writes:
"In the past, 'I' tried to stay open to pain (and disappointment) with 'teeth-gritting' acceptance. (Acceptance that wasn't really acceptance.) But things have changed now. I am no longer the pain. I am the receivingness... the open space that allows the pain... allows it to be. And with that, everything has changed. THERE ARE NO WORDS TO THANK YOU!!!"
(BTW, I told Carol she was wrong. Her words were a tremendous thanks ;-) )
And if you already have a meditation practice, you'll discover ways to take it even deeper -- HINT: you know the phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"? Well, wait until you discover how the meditation is much deeper on the other side of the room ;-) .
More than just meditation...
By the way, this is not going to be a workshop where we just sit quietly in a room all day and night -- though there will be ample time for silent practice.
While that would be a powerful experience, it would be an escape from daily life. And the I AM Course is about living the practice, about seeing through the artificial separation between "spiritual" and "mundane," so that we no longer have to struggle on some "path" to clarity or understanding or gratitude or awe. It's about finding that oneness can happily coexist with more-than-one-ness. And discovering how everything we hoped to get in some imagined future is available here and now.
This special class I AM Course and includes movement, partner activities, active meditation, and more.
Anyway, you'll have to bear with me. I'm not trying to "sell you" on the class. The I AM course is "my favorite conversation" and I get excited when I think about what we'll be doing here in November (including experiencing nature in, perhaps, a whole new way).
I'm pretty sure, in fact, that if you know you want to be here -- even if you're not sure why! ;-) -- I'm probably just rambling and slowing you down from signing up (you can click here to sign up if you're ready to do that).
Plus, I can't wait for us all to get together!
Having done live classes and teleclasses, live is the MOST fun.
Aside from how our practice is heightened when we get together for an event like this, we'll have a bit of time to hang out, socialize, and meet the other I AM Explorers (it's possible there will be people from all around the world!).
One of the reasons that I've been called the "anti-guru" is that I never want people's thoughts about me to make it awkward to share a good meal and we'll be having at least one of those together!
What makes these "Advanced" Meditations?
Simple. Whether you've never meditated before or have tried meditation with limited success, or even if you have a long-time practice, the I AM Techniques deliver profound results in a very short period of time, often just minutes.
The first time I taught the I AM Course, half the room was either meditation teachers or people who had been meditating for over 25 years. They joked that the Advanced Meditations were so advanced that even advanced meditators could do them ;-)
Here are some reports from people after practicing the I AM techniques for the first time:
"This practice really rocked my world. We are often told that only great wise spiritual teachers can become enlightened it seems so far off sometimes. So this kind of made me start thinking meditation isnt to become enlightemed but to realise we are enlightened. I have never done meditation before but this has got my attention! Thank you, Steven."

"I have meditated for years also and am grateful for it but I have now think I have discovered what Meister Eckhart meant by God Is. Isness of this moment. I can not say thank you enough for this great gift. I am in awe of how this has always been with me but I have not been in touch with myself. As above,so below. Words can not express my gratitude. Words also can not express what I am experiencing."

"My experience of the practice? The sense that all is well...everything is right and OK. Profoundly simple, simply profound. No effort--what a relief. It's done when it's done, long or short. Great implications for the rest of life. Rest. Ease. Good."

"This was also interesting. I experienced the collapse of the illusion of the universe and oneness with God. I have already experienced it before, but in a native ritual induced with magic mushroom. Regards"

"AMEN, there is no seperation. A seamless continum of being and experiencng and perceiving, limitless and all pervasive, from realization comes creation hat everything is connected and we are all that is. Experience and experience. Great exercise"

Why is it "Instant" meditation?
When you know I AM, you can make radical shifts like the ones you just read -- to ease and clarity -- any time, any place. In the office, in your car, while talking with friends... you don't have to escape to a corner of your room or a mountaintop.
If I ask you to pay attention to your feet (assuming you have them), it doesn't take any time or effort. In the same way, once you experience the calm and spacious place that I AM points to, it's just as easy to find it whenever you want to.
How does Instant Advanced Meditation "work"?
Meditation techniques break down into two fundamental “schools.”
The first is the Path of Purification. These techniques are based on the idea
that once you fix, improve or control yourself in some way, you’ll get the
promised payoff, what many people call enlightenment (and what many hope will
be the end of experiencing human suffering).
I call the other school "the Path of Recognition". Techniques from this lesser-known school give you an
immediate and direct introduction to – words won’t suffice here, but let’s use
“the already and always transparent and complete.”
The Purification techniques ask you to do something *with*
your awareness, such as watching your breathing or thoughts, repeating mantras,
visualizing, et cetera. These techniques take time to produce the results,
results that seem to be side effects from the continued reigning in of
awareness.
The Recognition techniques, instead, invite you to discover
something *about* awareness itself. These techniques are more like reminders or
pointers to something you always knew in the deepest part of your being, but
have forgotten how to see. So, while it takes some time (not much) to “get” the
reminder, what you then find is instantly available from that moment forward.
Exploring attention in this way gives all the same benefits of
Purification techniques – stress reduction, peace of mind, clarity, spiritual
insight – with one added bonus. You can use and experience the benefits of the
Recognition techniques in your daily life! You don’t have to remove yourself
from your day to day activities to find bliss and connection to the Divine. It
becomes available in any moment.
The techniques in The Advanced Meditation Class are Recognition
techniques.
You can use any one of these techniques as a complete practice
or you can add to your existing practice. In fact,
the Recognition techniques you’ll learn in The Advanced Meditation Course will
dramatically and quickly deepen the effects of any other practice you have (that's one of the things you'll experience during the class).
You may have noticed that I said “techniques” (plural). It’s
said that the Buddha taught 84,000 different meditation techniques. I joke that
it wasn’t because he was showing off. Instead, he knew that we each respond
differently to different methods… and he happened to be a master at matching
the method to the meditator.
In The Advanced Meditation Course, you won’t learn 84,000
techniques and I’m not the master who can pick the perfect technique for you.
But in this live and FUN class, you will explore 5 or 6 of the 10 I AM practices and you’ll know which of those techniques is the best for you at this
time. I add the “at this time” clarifier because you may find that a technique
that has a mild effect for you now becomes a life-changing tool when you try it
again in a few weeks or months or years.
This course is not for everyone
To give everyone as much personal attention as possible, I'm limiting this class size. And, I'm not letting everyone who signs up attend.
I want to make sure we have the right mix of attendees. So, after you sign up, I'll schedule a time to discuss your situation and see if you're a good fit for the class. If not, I'll refund your money on the spot.
What makes a "bad" fit?
Whether you have meditation experience or not isn't relevant. But, for example, if you're really attached to your ideas about what meditation is, and how it works, you may not like how simple and effective the I AM techniqes are. And if you're not willing to experiment with an open mind, this may not be for you.
So, sign up early to make sure you get the chance to attend.
Okay, how do I join you for the I AM Class?
Here are the details:
Date: Sunday, November 2, 2008
Time: 10am - 6:00pm
Location: Kelly's Barn, 1360 Sumac Ave, Boulder, Colorado
YOU DECIDE the cost of the class!
I'm not interested in charging you thousands of dollars to learn a mantra meditation that you can read in a book. And I have no desire to inflate the price to make you think, "Well, if it's that expensive, it must be good!"
I don't want it to be even possible for price to be an obstacle if you really want to come to the class.
The I AM Class is about you developing an easy way of finding what many call a deep inner truth. And the price of the class reflects this.
I'm not going to tell you what to pay for the I AM Class. My invitation is for you to experience the I AM Class first and then you decide what it's worth to you and how you want to match that value.
Because of the limited size, you must reserve your spot in the class with a $100 deposit. The deposit is fully refundable until October 30th and 50% refundable after that.
After you attend the class, then you decide what its value is. If you think it was worth more than $100, then you can make the appropriate payment. Worth less than $100 to you? I'll cut you a check on the spot.
There's no way you can pay the "wrong" amount ;-)
NOTICE: As of October 15th, there are only 8 spots left
